Holiday Job Search

A time to find, not hide from opportunity.

  • First and foremost, hiring during the holidays may slow down, but it does not stop.

  • Holidays can be a great time to reconnect with former colleagues, reach out to old friends, and meet new people by attending holiday parties and events.

  • When attending holiday gatherings, casual conversations on a variety of topics may occur, one of which may be focused on what you do for a living. This is one reason why so many job seekers shy away from attending such events. They want to avoid the topic. But not you!  Have your transition statement ready for delivery. This statement informs the listener that you are in job search due to (most likely) a restructuring within your company that has impacted your job, along with others. Keep this statement brief and matter of fact.

  • Keep the conversations light and focused. Share what your career goal is for year 2024 and insert into the conversation a name or two of one of your target companies. This way you guide the listener to understand how they may be able to help.

  • Let the conversation evolve naturally. If there is a connection and there appears to be a much larger conversation to be had, you can further the conversation by following up with an offer of an **exploratory conversation. This allows you both the opportunity to continue to mingle with others.

  • Lastly, never assume that a person may not know of someone in one of your target companies. You would be surprised!
